OTAEGUI FOLLOWS IN HIS HERO’S FOOTSTEPS

Adrian Otaegui from Spain won the prestigious 2010 Boys Amateur Championship to become the Champion Boy Golfer of the year. He beat Max Rottluff of Germany four and three in the thirty six holes final at Kilmarnock. Jose Maria Olazabal (in 1983), Sergio Garcia (in 1997) and Pablo Martin (2001) have been the previous winners of the same prestigious tournament from Spain.

It was all square in the 20th hole and then Adrian Otaegui struck his opponents a major blow as he won four consecutive holes with brilliant scores of par, birdie, bogey and par.

The Spaniard later said that he was very excited at having won the tournament and admitted that he played very well. He admitted the fact that he did not putt very well as compared to his opponents but he was very good with the irons. With this great victory, he has earned himself an invitation into the prestigious 2011 Amateur Championship which will be held at Hillside and Hesketh.

He said that Olazabal is his golf hero and to have his name next to his in the trophy is like a dream come true. He admitted that he practices sometimes with his idol and was planning to call him up and tell him about his victory.

He has also been selected to represent the continent of Europe in the prestigious Jacques Leglise Trophy Match and their nine men team will face the might of the Great Britain and Ireland at Castelconturbia in the country of Italy.

It was a disappointing finish to the tournament for Max Rottluff from Germany as he lost the title to Adrian Otaegui but he commented that he was very pleased with his performance in the tournament and admitted that his opponent played a better game of golf and hence deserved the victory. It remains to be seen if Adrian Otaegui can transform his amateur success into a professional one.

In a few years time it may well be Otaegui who has the best US Open golf odds, and is challenging Rory McIlroy for the title.
